Interview With Rinni Wulandari:
Please introduce yourself to the HypnoticAsia viewers.
Hi, I’m Rinni Wulandari from Indonesia, I’m a singer, songwriter, and also a mom.
You recently released a new single, “Snake on Apple Trees” with Yarra Rai. What was it like working together with her on the track?
It was so fun! Yarra Rai is such a humble and funny person, and I absolutely loved being around her. I had heard of her for a while now, but didn’t have a chance to talk much to her. The one time I watched her virtual performance, I liked her voice so much. I think we both have a different sound, and when put together we can make beautiful music, of which we actually made it happen in ‘Snake On Apple Trees’. I messaged her on Instagram and got to talking, and we talked a lot. We even did some workshops together and voila! This is born now!
Your album is slated for release in August 2021! Tell us more about the upcoming album.
This is my 4th album, and it’s titled ‘Skins’. ‘Skins’ is very personal to me. It’s like having so many layers which represents me, and the layers of life experiences that I’ve been through. I want to share my life story that has helped to develop me to become who I am now. Everyone who listens to my album when it’s out will know my story, and I hope that they can be motivated by the story that I tell in this album.
You were crowned the winner of Indonesian Idol in 2007! Would you say that helped change your music career to what it is today?
Yes, of course! But at the start, I was controlled by other people to have music that I wasn’t excited about for 7 years. I 2014, I convinced myself to make a change. From pop to R&B music which was a genre I always swayed more towards to since I was a kid. It was like starting from ground zero. I wanted to take all the risks and create music that I like. So many opportunities have come to me, which I have never expected and I’m so grateful for the journey that I have had, and becoming who I am in my music career.
If you can give advice to an up and coming artist, what would you tell them?
Don’t give up on your dreams! Keep chasing them no matter what. We were born ready to do whatever we want. Because WE CAN DO IT!
