Dreamcatcher is a 7 member K-Pop girl group consisting of JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami and Gahyeon. They became well-known for their immersive musical style, which fused rock, metal, and pop. Though the girls have extensive international touring experience, having completed a US tour the previous year, this was their first visit to Toronto, Canada.
On September 5th, Meridian Hall was packed with ecstatic InSomnias (Dreamcatcher’s fandom name). Many were already dressed in tour merchandise and holding the groups’ lightstick, preparing for the night ahead. The show began with a film of the 7 girls playing on the screen at the back of the stage.
Dreamcatcher Begin Their Concert in Toronto
Fans exploded into cheers as the septet took the stage; the girls had no trouble getting the crowd even more fired up by opening with “Scream”. Dreamcatcher continued to capture the audience’s attention when moving on to “Odd Eye.” This features impressive choreography like the girls simultaneously kicking up in the air.
A break is taken for each member to introduce themselves and express how excited they are to be in Toronto for the first time. Actually, this is their first time in Canada. They go on to perform “The Curse of the Spider”, “MAISON”, and “BOCA”. All of which consisted of more energetic dance moves and stunning backdrop screen visuals.
Dance Challenge Time
Stools were brought onto stage for a dance challenge segment. To explain a little, all of the girls sat and had to get up and perform if they knew the choreography to the music that was playing.
First song was EXO Kai’s “Rover” where SuA got up to perform a bit of the song. Next was DJ Snake’s “Taki Taki” when JiU, SuA and Yoohyeon jumped from their seats and danced in unison. Siyeon almost fell out of her seat when all three girls decided to do a sexy dance with their backs facing the crowd. The challenges continued with Chungha’s “Snapping” danced by Handong and KARD’s “Icky” by Dami. Lastly, Gahyeon radiated enthusiasm while dancing to “Idol” by YOASOBI.
The Concert Continues
The first ballad of the night was “To. You” during which the girls swayed alongside one another. They admired the audience as lightsticks waved back and forth in the air. To compliment the wonderful ballad, the screen behind them was a shimmering sparkly pink field and tall trees with a moon against the blue sky. The warm atmosphere grew with “Fairytale” and “Wonderland.”
Dreamcatcher eventually admits that their time in Toronto is coming to an end, but not before posing for a group shot with all of their fans. The girls finish with “BONVOYAGE” and exit the stage. Soon after, fans cheer for Dreamcatcher’s encore, and they return to complete the night with “Can’t Get You Out of My Mind” and “REASON”. Finally, they complete their concert with “Silent Night”. Dreamcatcher played this track four times!
Thank Yous and Goodbyes in Toronto
Each member takes turns thanking and appreciating the fans in the audience tonight. SuA becomes emotional as she shares, “Even though we speak different languages, I’m so happy people listen to our music”. Handong followed by revealing, “My heart feels warm like I’m with family”.
The other members also expressed their love for fans. Siyeon stated, “I’m so happy we made memories together that we can cherish for a long long time”. Meanwhile, JiU shares, “I didn’t know Canada had so many InSomnia’s”.
Yoohyeon began speaking in English, sharing a story of her Uber driver who had asked what her job was. She said, “I said dancer because I’m too shy,” and flawlessly switched to Korean to add, “It’s unbelievable to me that people who live far away listen to us and love us”.
Gahyeon expressed that their fans are the “driving force to be a better artist”. Lastly, Dami revealed, “I had a lot of expectations coming to a far place, but I wonder why I worried because you guys have given us so much love. We gain our strength from you cheering for us”.
Dreamcatcher said their final goodbyes by walking to the farthest corner of the stage and around to the other side, waving to fans all across the venue before exiting the stage for the last time. Dreamcatcher successfully complete their first concert in Canada!
