On Saturday, April 30th, Korea Times presented the 9th Annual Korean Music Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Prior to the start of the festival, booths were lined up against the sides along the path from the entrance of the Hollywood Bowl to the entrance of the bowl’s seating area. Bustling with people of all ages and ethnicity, the festival was jam packed with fun and games as people met their family, friends, and dancing soju bottles!
As the beginning of the festival drew near, more people began to file into the seating area, anticipating the show that was about to wow people away. With the strike of the clock at 6:00PM, the festival began with the NAME1, a Korean traditional drum performance by students from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and NAME2 High School, led by Professor NAME3 of UCLA. After NAME1 finished their set, Song So-hee (송소희), a Korean folk song singer, came out to deliver powerful and nostalgic renditions of various Korean folk songs. Despite her young age, Song So-hee bridged the gap between generations with her spectacular performance. Upon the conclusion of her set, NAME4 came out to sing the United States national anthem –The Stars Spangled Banner. With the end of the United States national anthem, fans were given a surprise as K.Will/게이윌 (real name 김형수/Kim Hyung-soo) was introduced as the singer for the Korean national anthem – Aegookga/애국가.

With the conclusion of the two national anthems, the audience sat down to welcome MCs Chang Ryul/창렬 of DJ DOC and G.NA (real name 최지나/Choi Gina), who came out to greet the spectators. Matching in a blue perfect for the spring air, the two MCs brought the energy level up a notch as they introduced the festival, themselves, and the next act.
Next to perform was Sul Woon Do (설운도) [as many of you may know, he’s the father of F.CUZ’s Lee-U].
The festival then decided to tease the younger audience as Jeong Soo-ra (정수라) performed Oh! Korea with Hyorin/효린 (Sistar/씨스타), Jay Park, Ji Eun/지은 (Secret/시크릿), and Soohyun/수현 (U-KISS/유키스).
The four idols left the stage with the end of Oh! Korea and Jeon Soo-ra continued her set for the show.
