The extraordinarily talented St. Vincent and Ellie Goulding made unexpected guest appearances. This added to the lasting appeal of this evening.
After a sneak peak at The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, CA, we knew this was a tour not to be missed.
The Full Tour
The tour kicked off at Tokyo Garden Theater from October 7 to 9. This is where Yoshiki’s symphonic magic unfolded in the heart of Japan. The concert series set the stage for an international musical journey that would soon captivate audiences on the other side of the world.
Following the London spectacle, Yoshiki took his “REQUIEM” tour to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on October 20. The City of Angels bore witness to an unforgettable night. Yoshiki, backed by a full orchestra, showcased the seamless integration of classical and rock elements. He left the audience in awe of his musical virtuosity.
The grand finale of this global symphony took place at Carnegie Hall in New York on October 28. The historical venue, synonymous with musical excellence, became the canvas for Yoshiki’s sonic masterpiece. The audience at Carnegie Hall experienced the culmination of a tour that spanned continents and transcended musical boundaries.
ACT 1
With a mesmerizing performance of “Amethyst,” the concert began and established the mood for an evening full of highs and lows. Rock and classical pieces alike were included as Yoshiki’s wide-ranging musical landscape was explored and presented to the audience.
The first act’s soul-stirring tunes, “Tears,” “Angel,” and “Miracle,” pierced the Royal Albert Hall’s ancient walls with each note. Originally released by X Japan, “Angel”, sung by Beverly during the concert, pierced the hearts of many devoted Yoshiki fans. Vocalist Beverly also returns to the stage to sing for the song “Kiss the Sky” later during the first Act.
Yoshiki’s musical skills left the crowd in amazement as he performed iconic songs like “Forever Love” and “Anniversary,” further enhancing the ethereal mood. During “Forever Love” a beautiful ballet performance was brought to the stage to accompany the music.
ACT 2
As the first act reached its climax, the stage was set for the second act, featuring a series of classical masterpieces. Yoshiki demonstrated his unmatched drumming prowess by taking the stage for drum solos set to Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade For Strings” and Górecki’s “Symfonia Pieśni żałosnych.”
With moving performances of “Say Anything,” “Swan Lake,” this set the tone for the rest of the act. Yoshiki jokingly asked St. Vincent if she was really going to play “New York” in London which made the crowd laugh. “New York” showcased St. Vincent’s extraordinary vocal abilities. She reveals that the song was created from a text sent to someone she loved. The collaboration continued when Ellie Goulding took the stage for a captivating performance of “Love Me Like You Do.” She mentions this song is from the OST of the movie Fifty Shades of Grey and that she was surprised about how well it did. This brought a pop sensibility into the classical setting.
From one masterwork to the next, the set list flowed naturally, with pieces by Yoshiki such “Red Swan” and “Requiem.” “Red Swan”, vocals by Beverly once again, is the theme song for the anime Attack on Titan. “Requiem” is his latest released track that was written as a homage to his late mother. The concert took another turn with the majestic “Art of Life” and the ageless classic “Endless Rain.” These performances peaked and the audience couldn’t help but give a standing ovation for everything they witnessed that night.
