ERIC RYAN INTERVIEW
Please introduce yourself to the readers of HypnoticAsia
Hi everyone! I’m Eric Ryan; I like making music & long walks on the beach.
How would you describe your music to potential listeners?
I’d say my music is the soundtrack for people falling in (& out) of love.
How did you get into music?
When I was little, I used to play this game on Xbox 360 called RockBand… played it every day for a whole summer. I think seeing myself on stage in the game sparked something in me. On my 13th birthday, my dad got me an acoustic guitar and showed me tutorials on youtube. One thing lead to another & now we’re here.
Who or what would you say are your musical influences?
I take inspiration from a lot of genres & it changes over time; however I’d say my main musical influence right now would be: Dijon, Daniel Caesar, Omar Apollo, & Steve Lacy.
You made your debut with the single “Soleil” in 2019 and garnered the interest of many listeners from the start. What do you hope to achieve with your music.
It’s pretty crazy; I did not expect Soleil to spread out as far as it has. To be quite frank, I made it with my friends in my basement for fun. Sitting here now, I realize how much joy & love I can put out into the world through making music; and honestly I just want to continue doing that.
Is there a genre or sound that you’re interested in trying that you haven’t already experienced?
I’ve been really interested in bass & learning motown bass lines as of lately.
You collaborated with various artists, including Shqdel, Kaiyel and more. What artists are you interested in collaborating with in the future?
Collaborating with Dijon, Rini, Grentperez or Daniel Caesar would be crazy. I could die happy.
We heard you are a featured artist of First Up with RBCxMusic program. Tell us about your experiences.
It’s been really dope! They’ve been helpful financially as well as with connections/resources for learning!
How did you become a featured artist of First Up with RBCxMusic?
I think I saw an ad on Instagram and applied right away, hahaha.
Can we expect more music from you in the near future? Anything you’d like to promote now?
Absolutely! I just dropped a song called “Loose” (feat. Ley Vara) and released a music video for it. I’ll also be dropping another song in October called “Bad” (feat. Maria-Therese); leading up to a project in the new year.
Be sure to check out Eric Ryan’s music!
