On May 14, 2024, BM, who is renowned for his energetic presence and adaptable artistic style, began his much awaited “After the After Party” tour in Los Angeles. The SOLD OUT concert was held at The Avalon Hollywood and was the first stop of BM’s tour. The tour is sure to be unforgettable, and it got off to an electric start. A few unique things to note for this tour is that it’s 21 years of age or older and cell phones were NOT allowed. Everyone knew this is definitely not the usual KPOP concert from the rules alone.
For anyone who does not know BM, he is a member of the co-ed group KARD. The South Korean KPOP group debuted back in 2017 and has been running strong, even with members doing solo activities. Being from California, BM is probably one of the more recognized members in the group to us in Los Angeles.
Uzuhan Starts the Party
Uzuhan‘s lively and entertaining performance set the tone for the evening. Even while not everyone knew every song on his set selection, there was no denying that the audience was excited. They really enjoyed his closing song, “uzutrap,” which made an effect on everyone in attendance. The Korean American singer performed a few of his other tracks such as “Bon Appetit” and more.
Sunkis’ Soulful Tunes
Following Uzuhan, Tawainese-American vocalist Sunkis took the stage, captivating the audience with his smooth vocals. He first came out to a VCR playing the intro to “Voicemail” and performed that track. Then he performed his version of “Like I Do”. Fun fact: Sunkis features on a remix version of “Like I Do” by J.Taylor and the choreography we see online is made by him!
His set which included his newest track “All For You” and “4ever” resonated with fans, showcasing his unique style and emotional depth. He even serenaded someone during the performance of “Top Tier. The crowd was left wanting more as his set concluded with “Last Goodbye”.
BM’s Diverse and Dynamic Setlist
A master class in performance, BM began with songs like “lowkey,” “Embers,” and “Nectar.” With “Bad Intentions” and “Motion,” two tracks that feature his trademark fusion of mellow vocals and strong beats, he maintained the high excitement level. Additionally, the performer engaged the audience by ‘serenading’ a fortunate fan, resulting in a personal and unforgettable encounter. Just a note for the rest of the tour, BM’s definition of ‘serenade’ may not be as sweet and innocent as they’re thinking.
The audience was ecstatic to hear the debut of an unreleased track by Matthew (not BM), which gave the evening a distinct vibe. “Lie” and “Broken Me” added a raw emotional dimension to the show. The crowd-pleasing renditions of “Loyalty” and “Badgirl Badboy” only served to heighten the tension of the show.
Interactive Fan Moments
In an interesting twist, BM invited a few pre-selected fans to compete in a dance off. Although the prize was first revealed as the keyboard he used to write “Element,” that was not the prize! The winner was instead given a personally autographed light stick, demonstrating BM’s lighthearted and captivating relationship with his fans. We still do not know who will receive this keyboard but congratulations to the fan that came from New York!
Medley and Special Guests
BM has featured in many tracks and did a medley of these songs. He started off with KARD’s very own “Icky,” and then “Put It On Ya” by Jessi, and the “RSVP Remix” by Koala. This added variety and kept the crowd on their toes on what he’ll perform next. He stopped the music at this point to not spoil the next song. He introduced one of his close friends as a guest performer. A surprise appearance by Woosung/Sammy of The Rose appeared on stage for a collaborative performance of their track “CWS”. This was a standout moment, delighting fans and adding an extra layer of excitement to the show where everyone may have lost it a little.
Encore and Fan Interaction
A high-energy encore features shirtless BM’s performances of “Body Movin” and “13Ivi”. This preceded the concert’s closing song being chosen by the audience. “Motion” was the clear winner, capping the evening off with a bang and leaving fans excited for the remainder of the tour.
BM’s “After the After Party” tour kickoff in Los Angeles was a remarkable start to his tour, filled with personal interactions, powerful performances, and memorable moments. Fans have even dubbed it “Magic Matthew”. If you’re near a city where he will appear, be sure to try to attend as you won’t regret it.
