The Music: “The Sun from the EAST” and “The Moon in the WEST“
BMSG FES’23 features not one but two new songs! Each are an ode to the talent and creativity of the BMSG family. Following the tradition of “New Chapter” which was previously produced by BMSG CEO and rapper, SKY-HI and Ryosuke “Dr.R” Sakai, the 2 songs were released.
“The Sun from the EAST,” features 11 artists from BMSG EAST – SKY-HI, Novel Core, Aile The Shota, SOTA (BE:FIRST), JUNON (BE:FIRST), LEO (BE:FIRST), TAKUTO (MAZZEL), HAYATO (MAZZEL), as well as BMSG artist trainees, RUI, TAIKI, and KANON.
The single brings forth these artists’ own skills and personalities through a vibrant mix of dance and hip hop, resounding horn sections, and a playful mic-relaying that harkens back to the early 2000’s East coast hip-hop scenes.
“The Moon in the WEST,” by BMSG WEST features MANATO (BE:FIRST), SHUNTO (BE:FIRST), RYUHEI (BE:FIRST), RYOKI (BE:FIRST), KAIRYU (MAZZEL), NAOYA (MAZZEL), RAN (MAZZEL), SEITO (MAZZEL), RYUKI (MAZZEL), EIKI (MAZZEL), edhiii boi, and REIKO.
Ryosuke “Dr.R” Sakai brings a diligently arranged track enabled by repetitive hard drum beats and captivating piano riffs and the coolness of these 12 artists, reminiscent of early 2000’s West Coast hip-hop.
Concert Highlights
The concert began with an intro VCR that introduced each and every member who will be participating in the concert. Shortly after the introduction video, the boys from the EAST were revealed and posted at the stop of the steps on stage. They sported casual clothing but each individual with their own style and looks. They performed “The Sun From The EAST”.
It was then time for the “The Moon In The WEST” as the members were also revealed at the top of the steps in their own style and look.
As the concert continued, all of the artists under BMSG showcase their talents; from the rap skills, their vocals, to their dance moves. While many had solo tracks and group tracks, the artists gave many collaboration stages.
Collaboration Stages
One of the first collaboration tracks by BMSG artists was “118” which is a song performed by BE:FIRST SOTA, Novel Core and edhiii boi. SOTA revealed that this is fate as all three artists are of the same age and celebrate the same birthday. The hip-hop track is named 118 because their birthday is on the 18th of January.
SOTA (BE:FIRST), Aile The Shota, and MANATO (BE:FIRST) form the subunit ShowMinorSavage and they performed several of their tracks together before Aile The Shota took over the stage to perform his solos.
Aile The Shota performed 5 solo tracks in his beautiful white outfit that went well with his long blonde hair. On the 6th track, “Yolo” was revealed which was performed by Team C. This includes trainees RUI and TAIKI as well as SHUNTO (BE:FIRST) and amazing vocalist REIKO.
Throughout the concert, more memorable collaborations take place including Reiko who performed with RAN of MAZZEL, and Aile The Shota performed with his best friend, Novel Core.
The BMSG Boy Groups
BE:FIRST and MAZZEL both had their own set of stages but they also had some collaboration stages together. Also, during BE:FIRST’s Brave Generation, all of the artists were revealed on the stage together.
While BE:FIRST had about 11 tracks, MAZZEL performed 5. They all showcased their amazing performances and interacted with fans even through it was a large stage. From phone lights to fans singing along, they took over the stage as if it was their own.
BMSG Trainees
BMSG included three trainees for this concert and all three members seem to be ready to debut as their stage presence was wonderful. RUI who is said to be Japan’s next prominent vocalist, was able to show not only his voice but his good looks. He performed alongside KANON who right off the bat revealed his beautiful eyes and deep voice. He memorized the fans from the stage. Together they performed a ballad duet, “The Voice”.
Then it was time for TAIKI, the 3rd trainee participating in theconcert. He performed his track “Karate Kid” and while he may look young, he has a strong stage presence and wonderful rap and vocal skills. He’ll go far as an artist under BMSG for sure.
CEO? Artist? It doesn’t matter, we’re just rappers!
BMSG’s CEO and founder, SKY-HI came out to perform several solos before he collaborates with his company artists. “Name Tag” is performed by rappers SKY-HI, Novel Core, RYOKI (BE:FIRST), RYUKI (MAZZEL), edhiii boi and TAIKI. SKY-HI yells into the mic, “CEO? ARTIST? It doesn’t matter, we’re just rappers” and they begin their track!
REIKO is seen getting emotional and lets the tears stream down his face during “One More Day (Remix)”. This is a collaboration track with SKY-HI, RAN (MAZZEL), SEITO (MAZZEL), and KAIRYU (MAZZEL).
The artists all come to the stage for “D.U.N.K” which is mainly sung by SKY-HI but the East and West members are seen on the sidelines having a fun dance battle.
They end their concert with the final stage: EAST x WEST mashup cypher which is by BMSG EAST and BMSG WEST. They end their concert on a fun note and fans are graced with not only a 4.5 hour stream, many artists and 62 tracks, but a memory they’ll forever remember and the talent they might not have known the artists of BMSG to have.
