This past weekend, the Head In The Clouds (HITC) New York Festival was a vibrant celebration of music. Among the standout performers was the incredibly talented Lyn Lapid. Held on May 11th & 12th, 2024, the festival featured a diverse lineup, but Lyn’s performance was particularly memorable. We had the pleasure of catching up with her on the 12th to learn more about her music, experiences, and upcoming projects.
When asked to introduce herself to HypnoticAsia readers, Lyn greeted us warmly, “Hi HypnoticAsia readers, my name is Lyn Lapid.”
On-Stage vs. Off-Stage Persona
We were curious about how Lyn’s on-stage persona compares to her off-stage self. She explained, “I would say I’m kind of an extrovert on stage, which is actually the opposite of what I’m like off stage. I think it’s a persona I’ve put on, but it’s an extension of my personality. I feel like I’ve definitely gotten a lot more comfortable on stage, and I think I’m able to showcase my actual personality there as well.”
Collaboration with Eric Nam
Lyn recently collaborated with Eric Nam, and we congratulated her on the achievement. She shared the exciting journey with us, “Thank you. Yeah, that one’s been really cool because I opened for him back in 2022, and him asking me to be on a song for his album was like a very full circle moment. So yeah, he just reached out to me and was like, ‘Hey, do you want to be on a song with me?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, of course!’ It’s just so cool.”
The song “Wish I Didn’t Care” is now released everywhere.Lyn Lapid Performing at HITC NY
This year marked Lyn’s second time performing at Head In The Clouds, but her first in New York. Reflecting on the experience, she said, “Really cool. Honestly, I feel like this is a very full circle moment to perform at HITC NY. Last time I performed in LA, and to be performing on both sides of the coasts is cool to see. And I’m from the East Coast, so it’s definitely a full circle moment.”
Upcoming Collaboration with mxmtoon
Lyn also has an exciting new collaboration with mxmtoon coming soon. She revealed, “It’s called ‘Back from the Dead,’ and it’s coming out next Friday (5/17), which I’m really excited about. I wrote that song about a year ago and sent it to mxmtoon. She said she loved the song and recorded her verse on it, and then we finished it together. Honestly, it’s so cool because she was one of the acts I was so excited to see at Head In The Clouds back in 2022. Another full circle moment.”
Music Recipe
For those new to her music, Lyn recommends, “Usually, I’d say ‘In My Mind,’ but maybe I’d recommend ‘Poster Boy’ for sure, off my last EP.”
Lyn considers herself a foodie. When we asked her to describe her music-making process as a recipe, she delightfully compared it to cooking: “Oh, my music. Okay,
- Step one: create, come up with topics.
- Step two: hook up some chords.
- Step three: mix together some melodies over those chords.
- Step four: write lyrics over that melody.
And then, you have a song!”
Social Media and Future Projects
Fans can follow Lyn on multiple platforms. “Everywhere! I’m on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube. Basically every platform,” she shared.
As for her future projects, Lyn couldn’t contain her excitement, “I’m super excited to release my collab with mxmtoon next week. Currently writing for the debut album as well, so I’m super excited for that.”
Lyn Lapid’s journey from classical piano and orchestral violinist to a rising star in the music industry is truly inspiring. Her performances at festivals like Head In The Clouds and collaborations with artists like Eric Nam and mxmtoon highlight her talent and versatility. We can’t wait to see what she creates next!
