DJ HYO, also known as HYO or Hyoyeon from the K-pop girl group, Girls’ Generation, stopped in Toronto, Canada as part of her debut North American tour on October 18th at The Phoenix Concert Theatre. It is HYO’s first time in Canada and she made sure to make it an unforgettable night for her fans that waited a long time.
Opener: biosphere
An up and coming Toronto DJ under LAB0916, biosphere, opened for HYO. biosphere thanked the audience for coming out on a weeknight before setting the stage for what was to come, seamlessly mixing and mashing up tracks from different genres. The array of energetic sounds and an enticing build-up left the crowd anxiously waiting for HYO’s appearance.

The screen towards the back of the stage changed to display “HYO” in chromatic effect receiving screams from the crowd in response. Lightsticks are seen swinging in anticipation around the venue, belonging to different K-pop groups though majority being Girls’ Generation’s.
When DJ HYO took the stage, the venue erupted in cheers. She immediately jumped into showcasing her expertise in blending various EDM tracks and hit songs such as Daddy Yankee’s “Con Calma”. Her transitions were flawless, creating a unique and dynamic atmosphere that had the crowd dancing nonstop.
Her fans that night were in for a treat as she moved towards the front of the stage and grabbed a mic to sing and dance to her song “DESSERT”. Fans were ecstatic as HYO moved across each end of the stage and pointed the mic into the crowd encouraging everyone to sing along.
The night soon came to an end but not before the DJ thanked everyone for coming out that night and asked to take a picture. A fan from the crowd offered a Girls’ Generation lightstick for Hyo to pose with and she happily obliged. She had taken a few selfies with fans as well as a group photo with the entire venue. HYO took her time waving to everyone and signing autographs before walking off the stage, bringing her first ever concert in Toronto to an end.
