[EP REVIEW] Paul Kim “The Christmas Sessions” EP ft. David So & Z.Woods

On December 18, 2013, Paul Kim unleashed his very own Christmas EP “The Christmas Sessions” with a total of five amazing Christmas tracks. Paul Kim is known for his soulful voice and R&B sound, so there was no doubt he’d bring R&B to some of these classic Christmas songs.

Joining Paul on the EP are Z.Woods and David So.  This EP is special because almost every song features David and Z.Woods who are known to be some of Paul’s good friends. If you listen to Paul’s covers, then you know they have many songs and videos together, so hearing them on Christmas tracks together was expected and great.

• Track 1: Silent Night ft. Z.Woods & David So – The original “Silent Night” was a dance tune but we all know the song as a soft song with a lullaby sound.  It is definitely known around the world as it has been sung in practically every language.  This acapella version by the three shows off their vocals and harmony perfectly. This version is a little over 1 minute long and serves as the EPs introduction track and puts you in the mood for the rest of the EP.
• Track 2: Fa La La ft. David So & Z.Woods – Many know the lyrics “Fa La La” as part of the Christmas Carol, “Deck the Halls”.  The lyrics were used recently in the song “Fa La La” which is originally sung by Justin Bieber and Boyz II Men released back in 2011, but this year, in 2013, David So, Paul Kim and Z.Woods come together on this special Christmas EP to release their own version of the spectacular song. They give the song a more R&B sound then it originally has.
• Track 3: Let It Snow ft. David So – A year ago, Paul Kim and David So unleashed a cover and video for this track and it has received much praise and love from fans all over. Now, the track ends up on the EP and fans can listen to it even more than before. If you like R&B then you’ll appreciate their version of another classic holiday song (which is often mistaken as a Christmas song despite the lack of Christmas reference in the lyrics).
• Track 4: The Christmas Song ft. Z. Woods & David So – The fourth track on the EP is titled “The Christmas Song” and once again, features both David So and Z.Woods. This is another well-known Christmas track which is originally known as a pop/ R&B track by the Nat King Cole Trio.  Despite the song being recorded in practically every genre, the R&B version has always been a favorite during the holiday season and the trio here do it justice by keeping the genre.
• Track 5: This Christmas – “This Christmas” is another original R&B Christmas song which also serves as Paul’s only solo on the newly released EP. This classic Christmas song is perfect for his voice. His amazing vocals can also be heard through this track. Despite the track being covered repeatedly over the years, every rendition seems new and Paul’s is no different. 

Overall, if you enjoy R&B and have been searching for some R&B Christmas tracks, then this is perfect for you as the three delivered a fantastic EP for the holidays.
