HYPNOTICASIA: When and why did you decide to pursue music as a career?
MIKE ISBERTO: Music has always been a huge part of my life. But maybe sometime in college; I realized it was the one thing that moved and inspired me the most.
HYPNOTICASIA: Why did you start uploading your music to YouTube?
MIKE ISBERTO: YouTube is a great way to instantly share with fans, supporters, and anyone else who may happen to come across your page some of your new material. It’s just a great way to interact with everyone.
HYPNOTICASIA: Who are your biggest musical influences?
MIKE ISBERTO: Some of my first musical influences are James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan. More recently, I’ve been really into Sara Bareilles and Brandi Carlile.
HYPNOTICASIA: How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it?
MIKE ISBERTO: For someone who hasn’t heard my music.. I’d say it’s very singer/songwriter. The genre would probably be Contemporary Folk with influences ranging from R&B/Soul to Country. Rather all over the place if you ask me.
HYPNOTICASIA: Has there been a particular moment in your musical career you are most proud of?
MIKE ISBERTO: I don’t think there is a single moment that I’m most proud of. But I think its a wonderful thing when we can do showcases and concerts that benefit others in need. It’s very fulfilling when you know you can help those who are less fortunate than yourself. I’m definitely proud of those moments.
HYPNOTICASIA: What instruments do you play?
MIKE ISBERTO: I mainly play guitar. But my first two instruments were piano and saxophone.
HYPNOTICASIA: We heard you were releasing a new album, how does this album differ from your previous albums?
MIKE ISBERTO: Yes, I’m releasing a new album July 2013. The album is called “More In Love”. It’s definitely a little different than the previous albums. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a country album. But you can tell there’s a strong country music influence in the new songs. It’s still very singer/songwriter, and it’s certainly still me. But we used some instrumentation on this record that we hadn’t in the past (banjo’s, mandolins, lap steel guitar). I’m excited for the new sound, and I’m really excited for the new album!
HYPNOTICASIA: How many tracks can we expect from this upcoming album?
MIKE ISBERTO: There will be 7 songs on the upcoming album.
HYPNOTICASIA: Which song are you most excited to release? Is it your favorite?
MIKE ISBERTO: I’m really excited about all of the tracks. Most of the songs are brand new, but some of them are older tunes that I’ve never released (and I’m really excited to finally have studio versions of them). It’s honestly hard to pick just one, but if had to, it would probably be the title track of the album: “More In Love”. I have a lot of favorites on this album, but it’s definitely one of them.
HYPNOTICASIA: Where did you get the inspiration to write all the new music on this new album?
MIKE ISBERTO: The new songs on the album were inspired by many different moments. But they’re all quite an accurate portrayal of past relationships and the feelings that came from them.
HYPNOTICASIA: Will you have any fellow musicians featured on your album? If so, who and what was it like working with them on the track?
MIKE ISBERTO: I worked on this album with my usual team. Jordan De Guzman and Chad Manalo who co-produced and played a lot of the instruments on the record. They’ve also been apart of every music project I’ve ever worked on.. so working with them was natural and always fun. And we also had a handful of amazing musicians apart of it as well. Including Eric Kern on drums, Kathryn Anderson singing background vocals, Jason Silber on Mandolin, and Ariana Anugerah on Cello. Everyone was amazing to work with. All so talented and so easy to work with.
HYPNOTICASIA: Do you do music full time?
MIKE ISBERTO: Yes, I’m a full time musician.
HYPNOTICASIA: How does social networking benefit you?
MIKE ISBERTO: Social Networking is such a great way to interact with your fans and supporters. And it also makes it a lot easier to stay in touch with all of them.
HYPNOTICASIA: If you could collaborate with an artist you haven’t already, who would it be and why?
MIKE ISBERTO: There are going to be a million, but I would love to collaborate with Sara Bareilles or Adele. They’re just both so amazing. They’re the first couple artists that come to mind.
Â
HYPNOTICASIA: If it wasn’t music, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
MIKE ISBERTO: If I couldn’t be an artist. I’d love to be a songwriter. If I wasn’t doing music at all, I’d love to be a writer. Maybe children’s books? 🙂
Â
HYPNOTICASIA: If you could give advice to an up and coming singer-songwriter, what would it be?
MIKE ISBERTO: Be patient and persistent. Work hard on your craft. And always try to inspire others by what you do.
