WHO ARE THEY?
HIGH4 are a four-member boy group under N.A.P Entertainment comprised of two vocalists and two rappers:
If any of the members seem familiar to you already, they probably are! Members Sunggu, Myunghan and Youngjun were previously featured in label-mate C-Real’s music video for “Sorry But I” and joined the K-Pop star studded cast list of Summer Snow, a musical based on the Japanese drama of the same name.
In addition, leader Sunggu, also previously known as Kyle, was featured on A Man Called God OST “I Hurt You” with Woo Sung in 2010. He was also seen on an episode of MBLAQ’s variety show Idol Manager in 2012, piquing interest with his close friendship with IU, MBLAQ’s Thunder and FIESTAR’s Hyemi back when they were all training under the same company.
HIGH4 first officially entered the K-Pop scene this past April with “Not Spring, Love or Cherry Blossoms” featuring IU. The sweet melody of “Not Spring, Love or Cherry Blossoms” garnered much interest amongst fans and the music charts. Following this release, HIGH4 held their own Japanese concert called HIGH4 SUMMER SNOW LIVE in May due to popular fan request before releasing another collaboration single with Lim Kim, titled “A Little Close (해요 말고 해)” at the end of July.
After gradually developing their fan base, HIGH4 finally made their official debut with their 1st mini album HI HIGH on August 27, 2014. The album features four new tracks including the title song “뱅뱅뱅 (Headache),” a fun and funky track which cutely illustrates the nervous and slightly confusing feelings that come with falling for someone, along with the two previously released collaboration tracks. Altogether, their debut album has a very interesting mix of styles that somehow work together to show off HIGH4’s diverse abilities.
However, if you could only listen to one song off the album, I recommend “True Love,” a slower song that best showcases Sunggu and Myunghan’s raw vocal prowess along with Alex’s unique husk and Youngjun’s speedier rapping.
HIGH4 have steadily been gaining the interests of many fans with their smooth vocals and unique styles, so they are definitely a rookie group to watch out for! Have you become a HIGH5 yet?
