WHO ARE THEY?
JJCC is a group formed by Jackie Chan under the management of Jackie Chan Group Korea. Their name stands for Jackie Chan Joint Culture and Double Joy Creative (Double JC). They are comprised of five members:
- Chinese-Australian vocalist Prince Mak (Henry Prince Mak, 1990)
- Vocalist Eddy (Oh Jongseok, 1990) from Los Angeles
- Rapper and former leader Simba (Kim Youngjin, 1992)
- Lastly, rapper, maknae (youngest) and current leader Sancheong (Choi Hadon, 1993)
The talented group is able to speak English and Chinese in addition to Korean, preparing them to take over Asia. The members also have individual talents that contribute to the group’s overall charm and appeal. Eldest member E.co was a former rapper of group J.Rich, which debuted in 2010, under the stage name Hajun. He, along with Simba, also have backgrounds in modeling. In addition, you may have seen member Eddy on the cooking survival show Master Chef Korea. Eddy is also trained in stunt work like mentor Jackie Chan.
JJCC first debuted onstage on March 20, 2014 on MNET’s M!Countdown music program. All five members performed their debut single, “첨엔 다 그래 (At First)”, a melancholy track that allowed the boys to express the feelings of heartbreak through their passionate voices. They later officially released the single along with its music video, which member Prince Mak was not present in due to injuries.
After their debut, JJCC remained active through their YouTube channel, garnering interest through the revelations of their everyday activities and fun personalities. They made their first comeback in August of 2014 by releasing their first mini album and teaming up with Duble Sidekick to produce a more upbeat, futuristic sounding title track called “빙빙빙 (Oneway)” that continues to showcase Eddy’s superior vocals and Sancheong’s steady raps while introducing fans to E.co and Simba’s singing and Prince Mak’s rapping talents. In addition to this song, the album also features the instrumental track to “Oneway” and two new songs “니가 떠나간다 (You’re Leaving)” and “Be Good”, giving the album an overall soulful sound.
It is also during this comeback that JJCC experienced a leader change – from Simba to youngest member Sancheong in order to give him a sense of responsibility, a unique concept in K-Pop as leader changes are not very common.
JJCC’s talent and quirky personalities have been gaining them much love and many fans among the K-Pop fandom, leading to them affectionately naming their official fan club KEY, explaining that their fans are the key to unlocking their sweet home. Will you become a KEY too?
