Marking a meaningful milestone in his music career, soloist HOHYUN performed his first solo show on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024. Taking place at the quaint Moroccan Lounge, the show filled with the singer’s dedicated fans and supportive friends. Audience members had lined up all day and drove from as far as Mexico to make it to the event.
Opening Act: Micah Yoo
The evening began with a short but sweet set from opening act Micah Yoo. With his youthful innocence and nerves as he forgot his lyrics several times, the young singer powered through his set with just him, his guitar, and his band. Finding his confidence throughout his set, Micah ended his thirty minute performance with his voice no longer shaking, earnestly thanking the crowd and the main act of the evening for the opportunity.
Not long after Micah’s set, it was time for the star of the show to make his appearance. Despite this being the first time he stepped on stage this evening, this wasn’t the first time the crowd saw the singer. Prior to the doors opening, HOHYUN surprised fans outside by running down the line and high fiving everyone, commemorating this first show. This set the tone for the singer’s performance, as it was prepared meaningfully, with his fans at the forefront of his mind.
Main Act Begins with HOHYUN
HOHYUN began his set at 9:15pm on the dot, to the delight of the audience, as cheers erupted from around the venue. The singer performed songs in both English and Korean, and also prepared tracks for both older and newer fans. He performed songs with his band, and also acoustically, just highlighting his voice and his guitar. “Stay With Me,” an unreleased track that hasn’t even been recorded yet, was prepared as a special gift for the crowd. Bossa Nova song “Without You” also had the audience swaying along, with the latter song featuring HOHYUN tossing a Chick-fil-A bag filled with merchandise into the crowd to pair with a line from the song.
The singer’s performance of his 2019 track “A.E.I.O.U.” was particularly memorable. It started off acoustically with just HOHYUN and his guitar, and exploding into a full live band performance after the bridge. Another memorable stage was the performance of his song “Those Three Words.” Giving a backstory to the song of having written this song for his girlfriend and performing it for her as his first time telling her he loves her, the young singer even brought her on stage to serenade her once again. Singing and swaying along together, the stage was romantic and meaningful, perfectly prepared for HOHYUN’s first solo show. The soloist wrapped up his set first with “Meant to Be”. He tearfully thanked everyone for helping him feel confident and sharing such a meaningful moment with him.
Encore
Undoubtedly the singer’s most popular song to date, it was only fitting that the show truly ended with an encore performance of “SUNSET BOULEVARD.” Despite his set only lasting for an hour, HOHYUN made sure to give it his all, engaging the crowd, singing with passion, and giving his fans just as much energy and love as he was receiving. Following the show’s end, both singer and audience didn’t want the momentous evening to end just yet. HOHYUN greeted his fans once more, hanging out at his merchandise booth to take photos and sign autographs, creating everlasting new core memories for himself and his fans on this unforgettable night.
