The legendary Japanese rock star Hyde had a thrilling performance at The NOVO in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 30, 2024. As another incredible night on Hyde’s tour, fans were treated to an exciting blend of rock anthems, heartfelt ballads, and captivating visuals.
Hyde Requires Chaos
The concert opened with Let it Out, where Hyde stood atop a podium amidst a dazzling light show, setting the tone for a night of high-energy theatrics. The audience roared as the podium was removed for After Light. Hyde invited the crowd to sing along midway, establishing a connection that carried through the night. The mood intensified with I Got 666, during which Hyde greeted Los Angeles, introduced himself, and playfully asked the audience if they had listened to his new album—a gentle nudge for those who hadn’t.
The next set, including Defeat and Bleeding, showcased Hyde’s vocal prowess. During Take Them Down, he wielded a megaphone, amplifying the rebellious energy of the track. The pace slowed for The Abyss, accompanied by an elegant microphone stand. Followed by a haunting piano solo by a band member where Hyde was able to run off and reset for the next part of the show.
A Musical or Concert?
A standout moment came with Tokoshie. Wind effects added to the song’s ethereal vibe as Hyde unveiled a flag draped over his microphone stand. Fans were then treated to Honey from Hyde’s L’Arc-en-Ciel days. Despite minor sound issues, Hyde powered through, inviting LA to sing with him—a testament to his professionalism and charm.
Things took a chaotic turn when Hyde, seeking more energy, urged the audience to crouch down and jump in unison. This was followed by 6or9, during which the stage erupted with balloon props and the band’s wild antics. The set escalated with Mad Qualia and Social Virus, the latter inciting a spontaneous mosh pit as fans unleashed their energy at Hyde’s command. The drama peaked during Midnight Celebration II though. He poured fake blood over himself after shedding his vest and sparkly hat. The artist then concluded the song sprawled dramatically on the stage.
The climactic Last Song began with Hyde lying on the floor before rising to a crescendo that held everyone’s attention. As red confetti showered the venue, the finale left the stage bathed in a surreal crimson hue.
Encore
The band kicked off the encore with solos that allowed each member to shine, including a thunderous drum solo that whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Hyde reappeared dramatically, emerging from a giant cylinder drum to perform Pandora.
In a touching moment, fans presented Hyde with flowers and a handmade banner, passed along with the help of security. He expressed his gratitude with bows, humorously engaging with the security team, and placing the banner on stage. The encore continued with Mugen, featured in Demon Slayer, and Glamorous Sky, where Hyde leaped into the pit and stood atop the barricade, a physical bridge to his fans. Finally, the night closed with Sex Blood Rock N’ Roll, an explosive nod to his VAMPS era.

From the carefully curated setlist to his unrelenting energy and ability to connect with fans, Hyde proved why he’s a revered figure in rock music.
