Baby Mic Candy (BMC) is now a 4-member Hip-Hop boy group. Consisting of MOTO from Thailand, and GOLI and YUKI from Japan, and their newest member FIAT from Thailand. The name ‘Baby Mic Candy’ is how they want to share their identity with the whole world. To charm listeners as vividly as Candy through the Microphone without forgetting their Baby-like innocence.
After just recently adding FIAT to the group, they released the track “TAKE OFF“. They are also working on a YouTube weekly series, ‘B.M.C. Way’. This is with Thailand’s GMMTV; it features the members of the Baby Mic Candy sharing their journey of being in Thailand.
Baby Mic Candy sat down with HypnoticAsia for an interview!
Please introduce yourself to the readers of HypnoticAsia!
- GOLI: My name is GOLI and I’m a rapper and beatmaker. I am also a sound producer for BMC. I’m an indoor person, but I’ve been enjoying going outside lately because of the beauty and fun of the cities in Thailand. I also like making music, watching movies, muscle training, and sauna.
- FIAT: Hello, my name is FIAT. I also work as a freelance actor. My hobby is making music and my favorite style is hip-hop.
- MOTO: My name is MOTO. I’m 24 years old, and I like hip-hop. I also like to play guitar, sing and dance.
- YUKI: My name is Yuki and I am a rapper of BMC. I like J-Hip-Hop and I’ve been obsessed with it since high school. Lately, I’m into four on-the-floor beat.
- Together as Baby Mic Candy, the name toys with the idea of how we as a group want to share our identity with the whole world, charming listeners as vividly as Candy through the Microphone without forgetting their Baby-like innocence.
While you recently made a debut with 3 members in August 2022, you have added FIAT to your group to become a 4-member boy group. How do you feel about working together as a 4-member group now?
- GOLI: Baby Mic Candy has become more unified as a team. In addition to the individual personalities, culture and musical tastes that each member has, the level of the fundamentals has been raised, especially in terms of creative precision and a bird’s eye view.
- MOTO: We were originally a three-person group, and since I had lived in Japan for six years, my sensibilities, way of thinking, and work style were rather close to the Japanese style. But now we are aiming to hit it big in Thailand, we thought it would be good to have members with more Thai sensibilities, so we were very happy to have FIAT join BMC and we were able to get that balance right. It is similar to building a house, and having four pillars rather than three is what keeps the balance.
- YUKI: I am glad Fiat became a member of BMC. At first, I was a little worried, but as we spent more and more time together and talked about various topics, I became more convinced that he is the right person for us. I am looking forward to create the tracks together from now on.
Tell us a little about each of the four (4) members of Baby Mic Candy!
- GOLI talks about FIAT: I really give my sincere thanks and respect to FIAT for joining us. I have met the best of the best. He had a very similar experience to mine. What shortened the distance between us was the fact that he had been doing DTM by himself for a long time, which started from his love for hip-hop. I think our mutual desire to produce with others who share the same will was an immediate match. Also, in private, he is very gentlemanly and very perfect. You might think it is hard to talk to him, but it is not. When you talk to him, you can see a lot of his kindness and personality, this gap is not fair. No, I should say it’s as good as it gets.
- FIAT talks about MOTO: MOTO and I talked a lot at the beginning. The basic idea is that we both like songwriting very much, and I thought MOTO’s presence was very important for BMC. Since MOTO had already lived in Japan, I thought he could stand between us and be a good bridge. Rather than Thai and Japanese people who are complete strangers to each other, MOTO is there to understand the Japanese way of thinking and so on, so he can come between us and make it easier for everyone to get along with each other. He is a good mediator. He is also a good young brother and I like the fact that he listens to everyone’s opinion well. We have a lot in common, we have similar interests, and I think we are a good match.
- MOTO talks about YUKI: YUKI is a year younger than I am, but I feel like he is a good friend of mine. While I am short-tempered and easily offended, YUKI is calm and collected, so it is easy for me to keep a good balance. Even when we disagree with each other, he speaks to me and brings us together so that we can come to an understanding, so I think we’ve had a very good relationship.
- YUKI tells about GOLI: I’ve known GOLI for a long time, we’ve been together for about 8 years, and we lived together in Tokyo, so I know pretty much everything about him.I have the image that he thinks and overthinks a lot, and his head is always crowded. But he knows how to solve it himself, so I am not particularly worried about it. He is usually a funny and fun person, but when he is making music, he is very serious..
- FIAT adds about other members: GOLI looks like a “bad boy”, but when you get to know him, he is warm-hearted and friendly. YUKI looks like a fun and friendly person, but he has his own pace and is probably thinking about many things. I value age hierarchy, so I think it’s very nice that YUKI adores me, and I think all the members have very good chemistry.
What would you say is BMC’s goal as a group? Is there a specific audience that you are trying to target?
- MOTO: As for the listeners base, we want to create songs that anyone can listen to. Rather than targeting a specific demographic, we aim to create songs that anyone can comfortably listen to. Our goal is to expand globally. Right now, we have set a goal to succeed in Thailand, expand to Asia, and then to the world.
- YUKI: Our big goal right now is to tour Asia. Our target is, of course, to get people who like Hip-Hop to like us. We also want to reach people who don’t usually listen to Hip-Hop, and I think BMC’s music can do that.
Tell our readers about your new track, “TAKE OFF”! Aside from the addition of FIAT, how does this differ from your debut song, “RUN”?
- GOLI: This song is a departure song for the new BMC, reflecting the individuality of each member and their expectations and anxieties for the great adventure flight that will unfold in Thailand.
It links the emotions that everyone experiences during a typical flight (adventure) with BMC’s current feelings.
The production style was also our first time working with a large group of people, so we shared ideas with each other, and we mixed Thai, English, and Japanese lyrics to keep BMC’s colors in mind. It took a lot of time because it was our first time, but it was a lot of fun. Lol
The difference between this song and “RUN” is that when you listen to it, you may think, “This is a song by a different artist, isn’t it?”
The sound image is so well separated in TAKE OFF. The producer CYNDI SEUI did an excellent job in getting the four of us seated safely. Without him, this flight would not have been possible. “Ear Candy” was also a key word during the production, and we would like to keep it in mind and show it off in the future as BMC.
You worked with SpatChies who is a prominent producer in Thailand. What was that like?
- GOLI : SpatChies and I or we, the members hit it off sensibly as soon as we met. We had a stress-free recording session, and the atmosphere and words he created helped us focus more on the music. In terms of our commitment to music, we had a lot of fun when two of us talked about Kanye West together, we recognized each other’s “likes”, and we hit it off faster than a conversation. I am grateful that we were able to make music while feeling the power of music. He is a great fit for BMC in making music that values not only working within the rules, but also the spirit of playfulness.
BMC is announced for the ICONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL 2022 lineup! What can fans expect from the group’s set?
- FIAT: This will be our first time on the big stage, so I think people are expecting to see what kind of songs we will perform as a mixed Thai-Japanese group. The fans and audience will of course see how much fun we have performing, and I myself am hoping that we can put on a perfect show. It may not be a song that everyone will like, but please look forward to it as I want to show you all the hard work we have put into the production process.
- YUKI: This will be the first time for the four of us to do a full live performance, so I’m sure they will be very excited to see us on the stage. We believe that we can show and give the energy of BMC to those who don’t know us too, so please look forward to it!
FOR FIAT: Alongside being a singer, you are also a popular actor in Thailand! How do you manage your time with the group and solo activities?
- FIAT: I like my job and I think I’m doing a good job of coordinating my time well. Even when I am tired, I am happy because I enjoy my work. So I think I can enjoy doing it and I don’t get stressed with how I divide my time between being an actor and BMC.
What would you all like to say to your fans who have supported your music?
- GOLI: I feel the greatest gratitude and joy for your support of our music. Our music is our life and our alter ego. Therefore, I want you to see us as we are. Just like in life, there are infinite ways to enjoy Baby Mic Candy. When you are listening to our music, we will do our best to bring Ear Candy to you and make it a good time for you. Now, are you guys ready?
BMC is TAKE(ing) OFF: !!!!! - FIAT & MOTO: Please support us! We are going to do our best as a mixed group of Thai and Japanese music and we think our songs are interesting. We are going to mix not only hip-hop but also various genres of music. Now we are going to TAKE OFF, we are just starting out, so we would like to start from now on and put our works out to the world.
- YUKI: Let’s live happy, everyone!!
