Interview with EGO 90’s artist, Babylon
“EGO 90’s” brings the essence of 90s music into the modern era. What inspired you to create an album with this particular theme?
In a world where everything changes rapidly and trends shift constantly, I wanted to convey the idea that while trends may evolve, classics remain eternal.
You’ve been known for your collaborations. Can you tell us more about any guest artists or producers you worked with on “EGO 90’s”?
Working with Kim Bum-soo was incredible; his singing gave me chills. Collaborating with Lee Hyori was a revelation—her ability to craft lyrics and melodies with such poetic elegance was truly impressive. Harim struck me as a true minstrel, with a powerful voice that carries great strength. As for Uhm Jung-hwa, I see her as Korea’s top diva.
Which track on “EGO 90’s” do you feel most represents your growth as an artist, and why? The 90s were a defining era in R&B.
Tracks like ‘Rain’ with Uhm Jung-hwa and ‘Anytime’ with Kim Bum-soo and Lee Hyori really stand out. These collaborations allowed me to connect deeply and share genuine emotions, reflecting the powerful energy of both original and classic elements.
How did you draw from your personal experiences or memories of that time while working on this album?
I focused on recalling the artists and songs I listened to as a child, paying close attention to the colors, shoes, clothing, language, and melodies of that time to inform my music creation.
Given the success of your previous albums, how do you think “EGO 90’s” stands out in your discography?
This album uniquely combines past, present, and future elements into a single contemporary R&B project, making it a special addition to my discography.
Beautiful Memories Tour
This is your first tour across the United States. How do you feel about performing for your American fans?
I’m both excited and nervous. I hope my genuine emotions come through naturally and authentically.
What can fans expect from the “Beautiful Memories Tour”? Are there any surprises or special moments planned?
Fans can look forward to an artistic blend of vocals, tone, and rhythm, creating a harmonious and natural performance experience.
How did you decide on the setlist for the tour? Will it include tracks from “EGO 90’s” as well as older hits?
While the tour will feature songs from the EGO 90’s series, we’ll also highlight tracks from Hardy and MOOD, as well as classic R&B hits from the U.S., layered to offer a diverse musical experience.
Touring can be both exhilarating and exhausting. How do you prepare yourself physically and mentally for a tour of this magnitude?
I focus on resting well, eating healthily, and exercising regularly. Maintaining a positive mindset and keeping my body and mind healthy are key to staying prepared.
Are there any cities or venues you’re particularly excited to perform at during this tour?
Every city and venue is precious to me, and I look forward to all of them with great anticipation.
What do you hope your fans take away from your shows on this tour?
I hope to create a heartfelt connection with the audience, allowing my true self as an artist to come through in the performance.
Looking ahead, do you have any plans to collaborate with American artists or expand your presence in the US market?
I’m optimistic about future collaborations with American artists and expanding my presence in the U.S. market.
Career and Artistic Vision
Your career has been marked by continuous innovation. How do you stay inspired and keep pushing the boundaries of your music?
I strive to continually challenge myself and stay dedicated to my craft. By maintaining physical and mental health, I can work diligently on my music.
With six full-length albums under your belt, how do you see your evolution as an artist from your debut to now?
I believe I’m giving my best effort. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to create and release music, recognizing that nothing in this world is guaranteed.
Your first album, CAELO, was a turning point in your career. How do you reflect on that album today?
CAELO is considered a classic in Korea, making it a deeply cherished album for me.
What’s next for Babylon? Are there any new projects or directions you’re excited to explore?
I’m looking forward to collaborating with American artists on future albums and continuing to release music regularly, just as I have been.
