Please introduce yourself to the readers here at HypnoticAsia!
Hey guys, my name is grentperez or Grant, I’m an Australia born Filipino, currently living in Western Sydney and I write music :D.
We heard you have released a new EP, When We Were Younger. Tell us about the tracks and the process of creating it.
These tracks all stem from some point in someone’s life, whether it be Love, Heartbreak, Growing up, Family and Friendships. I just wanted to play around on the thought of ageing. The songs were made anywhere I had the time to, working with different people wherever I was at the time like the UK, US or back at home in AUS. This did make things a little bit difficult, but incredibly interesting.
You recently toured with South Korean artist, Eric Nam. What was that experience like?
Eric Nam is super lovely, a very warm spirited person. I had so much fun, his audience were a blast and I hope they enjoyed me too.
You have also had your own tour which sold out in 20 minutes. Congratulations!
Thank You! That was definitely a highlight of my life.
Tell us about your experience on tour! Any fun stories or memories?
Berlin held a funny memory for my band and I. After axe throwing, the fellas decided to hop on those hire e-scooters and hit the town, we were drifting around for about 20 mins then gained the courage to do something a little more risky. We went to a park and carried the scooters up a few sets of stairs, counted down from 3 and jumped down each of them.
How would you say holding your own tour differs from touring with another artist?
Support tours are a little more relaxed, whereas my own tours require a little more concentration, making sure you’re doing the job correctly, like merch, fan service, hotels, management stuff, venue stuff… it’s all a bunch of stuff.
We saw that you were listed as a Fender Next Class of 2023 artist. What was your reaction when you heard about that?
I felt surprised and very honored for such a large organization to recognize me and believe in my project. Especially when I’m surrounded by such great company.
Last year, you released your debut track, “Cherry Wine” where the lyric video on YouTube has garnered over 8.6M views. Did you expect the outcome this song has had?
I did not, but I’m not complaining
Would you say “Cherry Wine” has opened more doors for your career as a musician?
I think so, especially genre wise. It’s shown a lot of people the capabilities of me as an artist! And it’s also super fun to play live.
You’ll be performing at Head In The Clouds LA 2023 this August! What can fans look forward to from your set?
Some dumb jokes, some singing, maybe some energy, who knows.
Aside from Head In The Clouds, do you have any more performances lined up in the near future?
Yes, another US tour, I’ll also be playing alongside Rex in Australia and Asia!
You are someone with many talents; from your singing to your drawing. How did you get into music?
I grew up listening to a lot of different music, from Soft rock, folk, to rnb and soul. My siblings always sung a lot and did a bunch of covers, so I just wanted to be like them.
How about art?
Art, I’d say my sister was the big push in that, she painted a whole bunch during high school and even still now, so I wanted to try my hand in art from a young age.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans who have been supporting you since the beginning?
To all those from the beginning, if i could hang out with you I really would!!! So let’s try and set that up 😀 ok bye thanks
