Interview with PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE
Please introduce yourselves to the HypnoticAsia readers.
Hello! We are PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE. As the name suggests, we are a supernatural phenomenal, triggered by the chemistry of 7 people who can sing, dance, rap and beatbox.
You recently released your debut album, “P.C.F”, tell us about the songs in your album.
The album, ‘P.C.F.’ is a self-titled abbreviation of our group name. Our title track ‘Choose One’ is our statement of determination. We wanted the song to convey the idea of “All of the members working together to make our shared dream come true”. We want to strive forwards together with our listeners. It’s a song that embodies those feelings. Other singles in the album includes previously released tracks before we debuted such as ‘Hotline’, ‘Best for You’, ‘Tokyo Spiral’ and ‘Snow Candy’.
The album also has new singles, ‘Bitter Sweet’, a sweet JPOP style topline with R&B flair on top of a hard beat and bassline. ‘Spark It Up’, is single infused with our strong desire to reach further than Japan and become global artists. Capturing the essence of a hot, tropical night, in tandem with a solid Moombahton beat, it’s a high-energy song that brings hype. The addictive sound packs a punch and showcases each member’s unique style.
Any fun stories to tell from the album recording or the music video filming?
Each song has a completely different feel and tone to it, so we had quite a tough time recording. We spent a long time working on the songs and practicing them over and over again with the members of our team until we were satisfied with the results. The whole process was so exciting.
For ‘Choose One’ music video – During the shoot, there was extremely heavy rain. There’s a scene where we have to run, so we had to take extra care not to slip. We filmed about 40 takes of the dance part, so we danced a lot.
Since PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE formed in the middle of the COVID-19
pandemic, was it hard promoting as a group?
We have always had a ‘social media first approach’, perhaps it is from us working together as a group pre-debut during the time that Covid had just started. However, our management and we worked together to move things online. We participated in our first “*Mushashugyo on TikTok” online event with the rest of the Jr.EXILE groups performing to ‘Hotline’, which attracted a total of about 300,000 viewers over six performances. We are really grateful to have these opportunities to meet our fans online from the very beginning, and that we are growing together with them. We have also worked on social content. Most of our music and content encapsulates our PSYCHIC FEVER sound, and apt for the streaming era.
We heard you will be joining Ballistik Boyz from EXILE TRIBE in Thailand until January 2023! How do you feel?
We are really really excited for what is to come, new challenges and in a new country. We look forward to working together with F.HERO and his team at High Cloud Entertainment, and learning more from them, seeing that this is going to be the first time we are going to be out of Japan as a group and into Thailand. We believe it will be very different, but a very good experience learning from others.
We also want to take advantage of this opportunity to touch the culture and people of Thailand, so that they get to know who we are. We want to bring our music to as many people.
You have experience performing on stage already as being opening acts and more for your senpais(seniors). Are you excited to stand on your very own stage as PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE?
As the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibilities. We have been active as PSYCHIC FEVER for 3 years, and in our 4th year, we’re so happy to finally make our debut. It’s a dream to have been given the title ‘from EXILE TRIBE’, but with that comes a lot of responsibility, so we’ll be working hard in order to deliver great performances to you all.
If you get the chance, would you like to hold a world tour? If so, what countries do you dream about visiting to perform?
We want to do a stadium tour in the US. SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles has been our ultimate dream to perform live and in front of a big audience. We really want to make our entertainment accessible worldwide. Recently, SoFi Stadium is the hottest venue ever.
