Judith Hill, a powerhouse vocalist and Grammy-winning artist, releases her music video for the new track “Americana.” “Americana” is the first single from Judith’s upcoming album “Baby, I’m Hollywood!” which will be released on February 12th, 2021.
Judith Hill is known as a protégé to Prince who co-produced her album, Back In Time. Others may know Judith Hill from her participation in NBC’s The Voice where she was a finalist. Or you may have seen her amazing collaborations with legends like Michael Jackson, Elton John, Ringo Star, Stevie Wonder and Gerard Way. She has also opened on tours for John Legend and Josh Groban. And of course, the incredible moment during Michael Jackson’s memorial service, she sang “Heal The World.” She has traveled the world as a solo artist, performing alongside legends as well as holding her own European tours.
The song “Americana” is described as a cry for social justice and the music video is, “a provocative new music video that depends a reckoning within the country.” The video shows her playing various characters – from an African warrior to a 1950’s service worker to a Western vigilante – who face criminalization due to their identities.
A biracial Japanese and African-American woman, the soul singer has talked at length about feeling like a foreigner in her own home.
“We are living in a time where deeply-rooted racism and xenophobia are being exposed,” states Hill. “In order to create a more inclusive society, we must first understand the struggles of the minority community.Americana is an aggressive emotional reaction and a cry for change.”
Alongside the music video, Judith releases a behind the scenes of her video in a mini-documentary. She tells of her inspirations and explains how each character portrayed in the music video represents a piece of her heritage throughout American history.
