While the K-POP scene has most of its attention from young teens with the handsome and pretty idol faces and catchy tunes, Korean hip hop provides your average young adult new music to get crazy to. Whether it’s a rebellious intense flow from Simon D or a lyrical melodic flow from Dynamic Duo, K-Hip Hop has just as many colors as any other genre.
Dumbfoundead opened the Amoeba Culture Concert at the House of Blues in Los Angeles and soon after came Kero One. These two artists are a great example of the range of Korean Hip Hop artists in that Dumbfoundead was very energetic where Kero One was more laid back. This reviewer personally found Dumbfoundead’s stage presence more enjoyable but both were well suited to set off the tone for the evening.
If I were to call the screams for Dumbfoundead deafening, you wouldn’t believe the ‘Cheerz’ for Simon D and Dynamic Duo. Simon D’s energy was infectious as he performed his own solo tracks as well as a few Supreme Team songs. Dynamic Duo started off a little differently with “거기서거기 (Without You)” which is a recent hit and a personal favorite from the duo. The smooth R&B melody and vocals from Gaeko along with Choiza lyrically charged flow showed one of the many different sides to Korean Hip Hop. But as for the style of Dynamic Duo they brought out the Dynamite. They performed their repertoire of hits and for the encore brought back out Simon D and drove the crowd wild.
