[K-Drama Review] Dream High (2011)

Dream High is a KBS TV drama that tells the story of 6 teenagers making their dreams come true. This drama stars some of Korea’s biggest artists including, Taecyeon and Wooyoung of 2PM, IU, Suzy of miss A, Eunjung of T-ara, Park Jin Young (JYP), and many more idols. Not only does the drama feature idols, but also musical actor Uhm Ki Joon and actress Lee Yoon Ji. Also actor Kim Soo Hyun who takes the challenge as one of the lead roles in the drama (Soohyun was also the lead in Jungle Fish season 1 which was only 1 episode long and Father’s House which was only 4 episodes). This was Suzy, IU and Wooyoung’s first time acting and they showed off their great acting ability.

This drama also had first time actor, ballad singer Joo of JYP entertainment. Many cameos by big stars in this drama such as, Nichkhun and Chansung of 2PM, Leeteuk and Eunhyuk of Super Junior, SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong, 2AM and miss A members, DJ KOO, and Dal Shabet.

Dream High has many actors of KeyEast and JYP entertainment because they are the production companies of the drama along with CJ Media.  Producers of this drama include 2 of Korea’s biggest CEOs/actor/singers Bae Yong Joon and Park Jin Young. The drama had really great ratings, reaching number one half way through the drama and keeping their first place status until the end. The ratings had an average of 14.9% nationwide and 17.1% in Seoul. This is a 16 episode drama with a special episode. The special episode is a concert along with the actors coming together to talk about the drama along with NG cuts and more.

ABOUT THE DRAMA:

Go Hyemi was a student major in classical music but has to give up her dream because of her father’s debt by entering Kirin Art High School. However, she needs to get the other two students come along in order for her to enroll the school conditionally. Those two students are Song Samdong, who lives faraway in the country side and Jinguk, the guy whom she accidentally meet while trying to escape from the loan shark. Yoon Baekhee who once was known as Hyemi’s tail, however, becoming Hyemi’s rival in the school because of those hurting words said by Hyemi. This drama tells the story on how six students at Kirin Art High School work hard to achieve their dreams of becoming stars.  –Dramawiki
