[K-Drama Review] Secret Garden (2010-2011)

The drama that took Korea by storm at the end of 2010 and beginning of 2011, is none other then SBS drama, Secret Garden. The drama stars some of Korea’s biggest actors and actresses like Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won. It’s been a while since Ha Ji Won has starred on the small screen and many of her fans have expressed their happiness to see her acting in such an amazing drama. This drama has it all romance, comedy, fantasy, and melodrama and it’s something for everyone to enjoy.

It’s 20 episodes long with a special NG episode with all the stars talking about their experience with the drama. This was a weekend drama, so it’s rating were really amazing and was number one for several weeks in a row. The average rating was 24.4% nationwide and 26.8% in Seoul making it one of the best drama ratings in a very long time.

This drama won many awards at the end of the year SBS Drama Awards for 2010. Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won won “Best Couple”, the two also won “Netizen Popularity Award”. The drama itself also won the “Netizen Popularity Award”. Ha Ji Won and Hyun Bin both also won their own awards for “Top Excellence Award, Actress/Actor – Drama Special”. With it’s great popularity, many idols have commented on the drama.

Some of the idols who have commented while watching the drama are, 2PM members, Super Junior members, Se7en and many other idols. Also, Baek Ji Young who sings the OST for the drama made a cameo appearance in episode 13. There were many cameo’s in the drama, so be sure to keep a look out for them while watching it.
The OST was amazing and has reached the number 1 spot. Baek Ji Young reached number 2 on music programs and Hyun Bin who has reached number 1 on 8 different music sites got number 2 on music show “Music Bank” against DBSK. Because Hyun Bin is not a singer, he has gained much interest of the fans for his amazing voice in the drama. 4Men and Yoon Sang Hyun (who also plays Oska in the drama) participated in the drama OST along with many other great artists.

The drama tells the story of Kim Joo Won, an arrogant and eccentric CEO who maintains the image of seeming perfection, and Gil Ra Im, a poor and humble stuntwoman whose beauty and body are the object of envy amongst top actresses. Their accidental meeting, when Joo Won mistakes Ra Im for actress Park Chae Rin, marks the beginning of a tense, bickering relationship, through which Joo Won tries to hide a growing attraction to Ra Im that both confuses and disturbs him.
