Fists of Legend tells the story of high school friends who reunite under desperate circumstances 25 years later in a reality mixed martial arts TV show. The movie is directed by Kang Woo-suk, who is known for ” Public Enemy”,”Silmido” and several other blockbuster hits. Fists of Legend is his 19th foray into film.
The friends haven’t kept in touch over the years, but when a producer (Lee Yo-won from “49 Days”) finds out their stories, she rallies to have them participate in a reality TV show and reunite under the guise of a live championship show.
Hwang Jung-min, Yu Jung-sang, and Yoon Jea-moon play the friends. Each enduring injuries and pain to show the amazingly realistic fight scenes.
Kang directs the movie in a way that makes you feel like you are in the ring with these fighters. The clear definition of the movie isn’t saturated and the 153 minutes movie time is long, but flows with drama and some unexpected humor.
Fists of Legend opens April 10th in South Korea and April 12th in the US.
