On June 1st, 2023 at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana, California, Lyn Lapid held her show! Lyn Lapid is an American singer-songwriter of Filipino descent. She gained popularity on TikTok, where she recorded covers of various songs, and teased her debut single, “Producer Man”.
Venue: Constellation Room (Santa Ana)
For those who have attended shows at the Observatory in Santa Ana, CA, the Constellation Room is in the same building. However, this is a small intimate room compared to the main room. For either room, the venue is nice as there’s plenty of parking at the venue ($25) and also across the street ($10).
Opening Act: Stephanie Poetri
Singer songwriter Stephanie Poetri opened for Lyn Lapid during this tour. Stephanie Poetri Dougharty is an Indonesian singer-songwriter and record producer. She is currently signed to record label 88rising.
As the opening act, she hyped up the crowd and got them ready for the main act. She sang her songs such as “Selfish”. Stephanie also performed a cover of “Fireflies” by Owl City which had the audience singing along. As she chatted with the crowd, she saw an Indonesian flag and gave them a shout out as she’s also Indonesian. Midway through her set, she pointed out that she’s into crocheting now and that she had crocheted something to ornament her set with lights stringed through.
To the audiences surprise, she sang 2 unreleased songs. First, a ballad titled “Never Easy” and the second is titled “Astrologically Illogical” which will be released on June 9th! She of course had to sing fan favorite “I Love You 3000” and her last song “Originally” that she collaborated with Elephante.
As she began cleaning up her set and staff started setting up for the new act, the house played Taylor swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray and more during the breakdown. The crowd knew all the words and sang them at the top of their lungs.
Main Act: Lyn Lapid
Finally, the main act Lyn Lapid appeared on stage! She mentioned that she opened for Eric at the Observatory just next door last year so this felt like a full circle moment. Also, she now has her very own sign on stage! Her name is spelled out in flowers and flashing lights that look like fireflies and complemented her set perfectly.
Lyn started with an intro track and performed the track “Pager”. She then played guitar for the song “I Guess That Was Goodbye”. Follwoing this, she also performed an unreleased song titled “Like You Want Me”. She explained that it’s a story about a boy that she talked to for 3 months. They would always text and face-time. One day, she messaged him and then waited and waited but no response. After a month, she tried again and realized something surprising; he ended up blocking her everywhere! Fans were definitely mad for her and they vocally told her she was way better and didn’t need him. She told them his name was Frank so they booed frank.
Lyn also told the audience that the stage is how she remembered her first date; with flowers, fireflies, etc. She tossed a flower to her fan Jerome who’s been yelling and very responsive to her throughout the show. As a special fan event, she asked if it was someone’s birthday and sang happy birthday to a few.
Going back to performances, she covered “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry before going into another unreleased track “Cross Your mind”. Keeping up with the covers, she also covered a song from Steven Universe which is her fav show “Love Like You”. The intimate venue was then filled with lights as everyone pulled up their phone flashlights for the song “My Little Island”. She of course changed gears and went on with a more energetic and rockish mood for “The Alternative”.
“One more song!”
Towards the end, Lyn mentioned that this is the best welcome back to Santa Ana that she could have imagined! Fans were definitely enthusiastic towards her and we felt their enjoyment of every performance. She also mentioned that she’s selling merchandise and she hoped they’d check it out before performing “Okay With It” and “Comatose”.
As she walked off stage, the audience yelled “one more song” so she came back out with “In My Mind”. She really ended the show with “Poster Boy” which is a super fun and energetic song that the crowd jumped around to.
If you missed them in California, both Stephanie Poetri and Lyn Lapid have been announced for the HITC LA 2023 lineup! The tour hasn’t ended yet at this was just the second stop of the tour. Make sure to check them out if they’ll be in a city near you.
