N.Flying ended their tour with a stop in Los Angeles, CA at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on January 22nd, 2023. The band previously came to Los Angeles to perform at KCON LA so this was their first solo tour. At exactly 7PM, the lights dimmed in the Auditorium and the lights on stage turned blue. N.Flying started the night with “Chance” and “Bitter Sweet”, before moving on to their track “Monster”. Seunghyub pulled out a megaphone for the beginning of “Monster” which caused louder screams from the audience.
Welcoming Fans
After this first set, they went on to welcome the audience to the last stop of their tour DWUW and introduce each member of the band. DWUW stands for “Do What You Want” which they definitely did during the concert (read ahead for various anecdotes). Despite the excitement they couldn’t contain being on stage, the leader Seunghyub said he had to take a moment to mention the tragedy they had heard happened just the day before nearby (mass shooting in Monterey Park, CA). As someone in the audience, I definitely appreciated their awareness and that they mentioned this during the concert.
After a few songs, the band decided it was the perfect time to teach the audience some fanchants in Korean and taught them their latest single “I Like You”. They even spelled out the Korean words in English to make it easier for the audience to pronounce during the song. This started their medium tempo set which also included “Autumn Dream” and “Fate”.
“HOT POTATO”
Halfway through the concert, the band performed their hit track “Hot Potato” which included an impromptu mannequin challenge. During the performance, the LA audience definitely failed with the constant giggling at the members poses. After the performance, they decided to give LA another chance. This only caused more giggles so they decided to pretend that time didn’t happen. With one final chance, the audience FINALLY passed the challenge, despite there being a “bird” in the venue (shoutout to the fan that whistled at that opportune moment).
Also, during this performance, fans pulled out potatoes on a stick that they decorated or dressed up (REAL potatoes!). This is something Korean fans did during the early days of N.Flying when this song first came out to promote the group.
At the start of the song “Say Goodbye”, Jaehyun had a drum solo that showed off his skills. At the end of that same song, Hun also had a bass solo. This set was where they focused on more high tempo rock tracks and went all out before leaving the stage. They of course came out for an encore with their more popular track “Rooftop”.
N.FLYING Say Goodbye
After this track, the members finally said their goodbyes:
- Jaehyun said that he has always wanted to see a sea of fans with their lightsticks as he imagined it would look like stars. When he was finally able to see it though, he found something more beautiful. This is where he makes all the fans swoon! He said, he saw the spark in everyone’s eyes lit by the lightsticks.
- Hweseung mentioned he couldn’t sleep last night as he was so excited for their LA stop. He revealed he was also sad that it was the last stop of their tour.
- Dongsung said if this is a dream then he doesn’t want to wake up. Of course he realized this is reality which he thought was even better.
- Hun said performing in the US is a dream to him as he has so many role models from the US so the experience seemed surreal.
- Seunghyub said that his English isn’t good but he tried and prepared so much to communicate with the US fans. He said he plans to see fans until they’re 80 years old or older.
They then ended the concert with the song, “The Real” and let their fans, N.Fia, know that they will definitely be back.
