Aya Safiya is a Japanese-American singer-songwriter from Berkeley, California. She is now in New York playing at venues and clubs. Her voice is described as, “smokiness that elicits a nostalgia of old world folk and blues and a refreshing sweetness that pays homage to today’s pop.”
She is known to captivate her listeners with her beautiful voice. She began music at the young age of 6 when she was given a violin by her family. She then continued and studied Greek violin before realizing her voice is her instrument that she could deeply connect with. At the age of 15, she began performing as a vocalist and went on to perform at national and international festivals. Through her music, Aya hopes to bring awareness to issues both inter- and intra-personal, and to inspire the acceptance of emotions, and the value of self-expression, art, and beauty.
Today, Aya officially releases her new single, “Washed away” which is the third single towards her anticipated Japanese EP. The song is inspired by the emotions instigated by Japan’s 2011 Touhoku Tsunami, and political aftermath, written with the hope of encouraging others to not forget so willingly, and to feel the weight of a single human’s precious life. In this track produced by composer/producer Tano Brock, Aya’s powerful and enchanting voice is highlighted by a minimal electronic production with ethereal sounds.
