Car, the garden closed out his first North American tour in Toronto at The Opera House on April 13th, 2023. The South Korean singer brought along Hyunwoo (bassist), U-Turn (guitarist), Young-ho (keyboardist) and Jinho (drummer).
The band began the night mesmerizing the crowd with “DIAMOND”. Car, the garden’s feathery voice harmonizing above the opening chord produced gasps from fans. After “A Kid From Bathroom” and “Lost 2”, he apologizes for not being fluent in English, pulling out flashcards to read translations after speaking Korean to the crowd.
Blue Jays
Car, the garden was wearing a Blue Jays Kevin Gosman jersey during the show. He emphasized that he loves the Jays and it feels so special to be able to perform in Canada for the first time. He continued to read off flashcards throughout the night to express his feelings and talk a little bit about the upcoming song.
Car, the garden brought the energy up while encouraging the crowd to sing along to “Little By Little” and his fans happily shouted the lyrics when prompted. The band continued to capture everyone’s hearts during “Tree” and “우리의 밤을 외워요 (Memorize Our Night)”.
“Isn’t that what song lyrics are about?”
When announcing “명동콜링 (Myeongdong Calling)” as the next song, he explained that it is another song about a girl he used to like. He adds on, “Isn’t that what song lyrics are about?”. However, Car, the garden’s music cannot be confined to a singular genre or a general description of what the song lyrics mean. His soulful voice paired with purifying guitar riffs are enough to reel anyone in regardless.
The night wrapped up with “Home Sweet Home”, “Handhold” and “Till the End of Time”. During which a disco ball descended for one last dance. For his first ever show in Canada, Car, the garden left a mark on everyone in attendance, from couples swaying all night to venue staff who enjoyed from the doors.
Make sure to catch him the next time he’s in North America!
