South Korean 5-member boy group, CIX, took over the historic Orpheum Theatre on March 24th, 2023! The Los Angeles leg of the North American tour “Save Me Kill Me” ended well with fans leaving the venue with smiles and excitement still shown on their faces.
Venue – The Orpheum Theatre
This venue is located on Broadway in Los Angeles, California and holds 1,976 people. While several artists have used this venue, OMEGA X being the most recent, we personally aren’t fans of it.
- There is a pit that photographers are unable to use so is essentially a waste of space.
- Media can shoot from the back or the sides but the back is pretty far to capture great photos. Likewise, the sides are pretty much blocked by pillars and media would block fans if they go down the aisles.
- There isn’t much done to the stage for any concert we have attended at this venue so the theatre vibe doesn’t seem to fit well with K-POP shows.
Meanwhile, there are several parking lots in walking distance and range from $15 – $30 so that’s good.
The Show
Enough about the venue, lets get to the show review!
As the lights dimmed and CIX come onto the stage, different color lights highlight a shadow of each member. The lights turn red and CIX get into position and perform “Numb” before moving onto “Young”. The boy group take a quick break to introduce themselves and their tour as this is their second time in LA. They then gave the fans a hint of their next song, “Jungle” before going into a more free and fun track “Imagine”. They mentioned that this tour was their first time performing the song.
Solo Stages
The boys perform a few more tracks before leaving the stage and the first VCR begins. This showed the members running until they ended up near a bright light. The video then focuses on member Yeonhee who then walks on stage in a blue hoodie and jeans to sing a cover of “Holy” by Justin Bieber. At this point fan tension is at a high and they even sing along to parts of the song. After he waves and walks off, a small clip of member BX appeared on screen holding a match. He then proceeds to come on stage in black leather jeans with a cover of “bodied “Bodied” by Futuristic; I hope you see the trend of small video clip before a member solo now!
Following this solo, was member Seunghoon in all black with a glass of wine. He walked around stage with this glass and sang “Heartbreak Anniversary” by Giveon which induced more crowd singing. Member Hyunsuk’s video showed him holding a box cutter which definitely confused a few of the audience around us. Nonetheless, screams ensued as he walked in dressed in a leather jacket performing “Text Me” by DPR Live. He did a bit of acting and teased fans as at the end, he left the stage with a little smirk and shrug before saying “text me”. Lastly, was Bae Jinyoung with a long white button up shirt performing “Alright” by Keshi. He goes to mention later that he regretted his solo performance and unfortunately some of the audience could see that.
Despite this, all the tracks picked for the solo tracks were solid song choices for the LA crowd which I’m sure vibed well with their US tour in general.
CIX Chat with Fans
The members then came back out with denim outfits and performed their title track “458”. They talked about their solos among themselves while throwing questions to the audience. BX stated that he wanted to drop his mic at the end of his solo but was afraid it would break. Member Seunghoon held a towel so BX can try it at that moment. Yeonhee then stated that for his solo, he was in a “holy state of mind” which caused the audience to laugh at his choice of words. CIX also mentioned that it was cold when they filmed their VCR but they bet no one can tell.
They then changed the mood with a slower track “Everything” before switching it up again with “Bad Dream”. CIX chatted again after this set and mentioned that they knew that “Bad Dream” is a fan favorite so they decided to add it to the set list. They asked FIX (their fandom name) what other songs they want to hear. Member BX then mentioned that it was almost time to go which caused the members to yell at him to “get out”. They said next time they come, Seunghoon really wants to go out into the crowd.
Encore
The members went back to performing with “What You Wanted” and hit track “Movie Star”. These two tracks had the most fan chants. They ran off stage while a VCR began with a keyword interview to let fans know more about the members. CIX had another outfit change and came out with white tour shirts and sang “Drown in love” and “Cinema” before really saying goodbye to fans. They mentioned that they were really sad knowing that the show was coming to an end. Seunghoon told BX to “get out” again since he said they really needed to say goodbye. The members mentioned that they were in LA on tour last year, had promised they’ll be back and here they are!
Member Yeonhee said, even though they’re already in LA, he wants to be back in LA so fans need to make sure to stay healthy and safe. Their official last track of the night was “The One”. For fans nearby, CIX will be performing at We Bridge Music Festival/EXPO on April 21st. Don’t miss out!
