J.Y. Park (also known as JYP or Park Jin Young) made his last stop on the “Groove Back” tour in Los Angeles, California on February 12th, 2023! Performing at The Wiltern is something he revealed is important to him. When he was just getting started and visited K-Town LA, he saw the venue in the “heart of town” and knew this was the place for his future concerts.
The lights dimmed and the band started the show at exactly 8PM which is rare for concerts to start on the dot!
J.Y. Park The Legend!
The legendary J.Y. Park came out in a white outfit and a large coat that soon came off so he can perform his hit songs. He performed many tracks like “Who’s Your Mama?”, “She Was Pretty” and then covered “Uptown Funk”. “Groove Back” was slightly mashed up with the previous track but the newest single had everyone in the crowd dancing and singing along.
If you want to attend a concert where all ages are partying it up, it’s at a J.Y. Park concert, for sure. It was soon time for him to formally introduce himself to the audience. J.Y. Park wondered if anyone would show up for his concert. He realized it was the day of the Superbowl and the weekend of Valentine’s day. He also joked that he beat the teams playing today because everyone was there with him.
While Los Angeles is the last show on the tour, he revealed it’s the smallest venue that he performed at but he was happy with it because he’s able to see everyone’s face. LA is his after party for the tour and proudly announced that everyone can stay as long as they want!
Before performing again, J.Y. Park had to let everyone know that everything is 100% live, from the band playing behind him to his live vocals.
J.Y. Park brings the Groove Back into everyone’s soul!
It was time for him to continue performing songs like “I Have A Lover” and “Switch With Me” which originally was released with Rain (Bi). Also included in this set was “The House You Live” which seemed to be a favorite for many.
Every time he stopped to get a breather, fans began chanting his name and the artist said it was the craziest reaction he’s had on tour.
Taking us back to promoting K-POP
J.Y. Park told us about his memories of passing out CDs to promote K-POP. This is where the legend revealed he wanted to hold K-POP concerts at this very venue, The Wiltern. After a bit of reminiscing, he introduced his live band before he put on a black glittery jacket. If you are a K-Music fan, then you know this means it’s time for some TROT! He performed “Four Beats” by Song Dae Kwan.
When at a J.Y. Park concert, you have to expect it all – from originals, to J.Y. Park produced tracks. And from his favorite Korean hits to his favorite American hits.
“When We Disco” which is usually performed with Wonder Girls member, Sunmi was part of the fantastic setlist and then he transitioned smoothly into “Nobody” which everyone knows is one of his favorites. Seemed to be a crowd favorite too! Of course, can’t go to a JYP concert without hearing “Honey”.
The American Favorites
He brought the legendary Elvis Presley back with not only his outfit but the medley he performed. He had everyone up on their feet again with “Hound Dog” and “Jailhouse Rock”.
The K-POP Credits
While he is known for his own popular songs, he is also credited for writing some of K-POP’s biggest hits. The Asian Soul, J.Y. Park performed “Alcohol-Free” by Twice and “Bad Girl Good Girl” by miss A (fun fact: former member Min surprised him at his New York stop). Fans of all ages sang along and the Twice lightsticks came on during the track. Can’t forget the boy groups! He performed “Again & Again” by 2PM and fans danced along to the famous dance moves. Don’t forget that he also performed so many other tracks earlier on. He had MANY covers at this show.
He slowed it down by thanking his teachers who gave him the ability to be who he is today. He performed their tracks on the keyboard before performing songs that he was a backup dancer for.
Losing his voice
It isn’t LA if the artist isn’t having fun! So much fun that he began losing his voice. He aged himself a bit by stating when Park Jin Young debuted 29 years ago, he was releasing LP’s, then cassettes, and then CDs. Now, we are releasing music through streaming platforms and he’s still alive and performing through it all.
He told his audience that he’ll only stop music if his fans stop coming to his show. He also asked them to continue coming for 9 more years because he’ll keep dancing, even at 60 years old. The producer and performer sang a few more songs before running off stage.
Time for an encore
J.Y. Park returned for not one but two encores! He performed a fan favorite, “Don’t Leave Me” and the legendary song, g.o.d’s “One Candle” which had everyone in their feelings and singing along.
Soulmates (his fans) really showed us what it means to be a fan for life – to continue showing support and love for their artist. Soulmates and J.Y. Park will likely be partying it up and bringing the groove and soul back to LA regardless of age!
