Warren Hue is a talented Indonesian rapper-singer under the 88rising label. He started releasing music at the age of 16 and hasn’t stopped since. In 2021, four of his songs were included in the Sang-Chi movie soundtrack. In the summer of 2022, he finally released his full length debut album Boy of the Year.
The ‘Boy of the Year’ tour started off in Los Angeles, CA at The Roxy on October 20th. To the delight of fans upon entering the venue, they realized that it’s a small and intimate venue. Many fans previously saw both Warren Hue and Chasu at Head in the Clouds so excitement was high. Being this close to Warren compared to HITC was definitely a change!
Chasu Opens with a DJ Set For Warren
Chasu opened up the show with his DJ set. After multiple technical difficulties with sound, he was finally able to begin! At the end of his set, he held the mic to a fan to belt out the rap to “Internet Boy”. Between sets was a 30 minute intermission where we can hear the crew changing sets on stage behind a curtain. This only heightened the anticipation to see Warren Hue.
Warren’s Time To Shine
Warren Hue was set to come out at 10pm, late for a Thursday night but this definitely didn’t stop the LA tour-stop from selling out. On this sold out night, the audience grabbed drinks at the bar and found a spot to stand on the wooden floor. Good thing about small intimate venues is that anywhere you stand, you can see some part of the stage; the sound was definitely better in the middle though.
His focus was to promote his new album, Boy of the Year, so the audience had the opportunity to hear some of his album’s tracks. He performed his tracks, “THIRTYNINE” and “HANDSOME” live among many others. He performed fan favorites “In My Bag” and “Runaway W Me”; the fans always join in during these songs. With Tobi Lou not being there, the fans played a big part in singing along. Warren even performed an unreleased track!
It wouldn’t be an 88Rising artist tour in LA without a special appearance by Rich Brian. He jumped on stage for the encore where they performed “Getcho Mans”. While his set felt very short, Warren still left the audience fulfilled. If you haven’t bought a ticket yet for the other stops, look out for his tour coming to a city near you!
